FAQS
Why is this a “Grown Up” Sandwich?
Sometimes we need to satisfy the taste of nostalgia through a developed palate. Everything is better when you care about the ingredients that go into it. Why waste time eating store-bought Peanut Butter and cheap Jam on White Bread? If you’re going to eat something, make it count. Take your time and treat yourself; you deserve it!
Why am I using Wine?
Wine is extremely complex. In a glass of wine, you can taste many things such as oak, fruit, herbs, bitterness, sweetness, and acidity. Anytime you add just a little bit of Wine to food, it marries all of this complexity to the dish. You’d be amazed how much one seemingly simple ingredient can elevate the taste, elegance, and satisfaction of a single meal.
What kind of Red Wine do I use?
Up to you! If you have a bottle open, then use that. If you don’t have a bottle open, then use this as an excuse to open one and have a glass! I mean the recipe calls for it, you have to at this point.
For cooking purposes, I always keep unfinished bottles of wine in my refrigerator. Once a bottle of wine has been open several days, it will turn acidic and no longer taste good to drink. However, this is when it’s perfect for cooking. Food (and the sweetness of your jam) cry out for a touch of acidity! I would use this type of Wine anytime I call for it in a recipe.
Do I need to toast the Sandwich bread?
You do not, but you should. Extra steps are a part of making food with love! Every detail matters. Food should be more than utility; it should be enjoyable. Anyone can make good food, but exceptional food comes down to the details. Put in the extra step, add the details, and your food will be excellent. Everyone will thank you for it.
Can I use a toaster instead?
You can. I prefer to season my Bread with Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Salt, Pepper, and toast in the oven. When able, my favorite method is to grill the bread lightly.
